Bond. James Bond.

Justin and I went to see Quantum of Solace on the Saturday it opened. It's funny, when I go to a huge opening like this, I almost look forward to whatever previews I'm going to see as much as the movie itself! Come back tomorrow to find out what I'm now looking forward to in the movie world!

I am not a die hard James Bond fan. I haven't seen that many of the older movies, but when Pierce Brosnan became Bond... well, I started to pay attention for sure! You see, I have a thing for Pierce. It's been around for a long time, since my best friend and I used to go home for lunch in high school and watch Remington Steele. He's on the short list - actors who compel me to go see a movie, almost regardless of subject matter, just be being in it. So, I very much enjoyed the Bond movies he was in.

Of course, it wasn't all just about Pierce. I love the gadgets, the chases, the craziness, the spying. It's just right up my alley. I was not surprised when they decided Pierce's time as Bond was through, and waited eagerly like everyone else to find out who would be the next Bond.

Then they announced it: Daniel Craig. And I thought, Daniel what? I hadn't seen any of his work, so I was curious. Afterwards, I saw him in Munich and thought it was good. But I looked at pictures and video clips and wasn't sure. He didn't seem as attractive and I didn't know how he'd put the character across.

I was excited for Casino Royale. It would be my first opportunity to compare the two Bonds of my time. And it didn't disappoint. Craig is a decidedly more serious (and more dangerous) Bond. He fits the role wonderfully, his rugged good looks and the ability to portray a man driven by the hardness that personal tragedy can grow in you. And I like it. He also has a more classic Bond look, definitely more traditional looking than Brosnan.

I loved Casino Royale. I liked Quantum of Solace. I didn't love it. It was definitely following a hard act, but it just wasn't quite as good. I liked the villian in this one - very modern-day! The Bond girl? Different. Not just hot, but involved in another way, driven by revenge and the desire to reap it.

I admit that I do feel a little bit like I just want to fast forward to the next one. When Bond starts to become what he is in later days - a lothario with the ladies - how will it play out with Craig at the helm? I can't wait to find out!
