If Wishes Were Trees
I wish that when I tried to tell my neuro-opthamologist that the medication is making it hard for me to function as a normal human, he understood that I meant that walking two blocks or folding a load of laundry leaves me tired and out of breath. I wish he understood that this is NOT NORMAL for me, that two months ago I could do these things and lots more without any trouble. I wish he could even fathom the idea that getting everyone out of the house, working 8 hours, and getting everyone home takes so much effort that I have nothing left and most nights I fall asleep when my kids do.
Instead, he seemed to hear me say that I don't want to make an effort, that I needed him to tell me to start small, walking one block, then two, then four. I KNOW how to create an exercise program. I am so exhausted mentally and physically that a lot of days, I want to cry. Instead he seemed to hear me say that I just can't be bothered, or that I am not trying, or that I am making excuses. He seemed to think it was a little silly when I suggested I needed to do a doctor guided weight loss program that didn't involve activity.
I wish that he could understand what it's like to have this illness and to put this medication into your body and feel it take your life away. I wish he could fathom what it's like to spend hours each day thinking about your weight and how if you could just SOMEHOW DO MORE that maybe it would make things better. To feel like a failure because in the past you HAVE lost weight in a way that was normal and healthy (eating less + activity!) and it's the only way you know how, but now you can't even do that because activity is so hard, many days virtually impossible the the levels you'd need to maintain to see the significant weight loss that needs to happen to possibly improve the condition.
I don't even have the words to describe how mentally exhausting the last couple of weeks have been. I went to the doctor, and my optic nerve swelling has gone down on the higher dose of Diamox. But my side effects are bad. I can't tell the difference between the side effects from the medication and any side effects I might be having from the actual IIH.
I wish that when I asked in an online forum of 1800 people whether anyone had experience with medically required weight loss, guided by a doctor, that didn't require activity, that people understood that I wasn't talking about being lazy or having PCOS.
I don't need advice about juice cleanses or herbal wraps. I need referrals and recommendations for doctors. I need to lose an amount of weight (ideally 2-5 lbs/week) that I don't feel is safe or wise to lose on my own without the help of a medical professional. I know how to eat right. I know how to follow points, and I understand about processed foods, and I can count calories. That is not what I'm asking.
Wilting
Right now, I feel like my life isn't happy. Last summer and fall were amazing, and I had these months of doing all these things I was passionate about, that I felt like I'd been waiting years to do, I felt like I was blooming.
This spring and summer has turned into the summer of nothingness, of sitting and being unable to do much of anything. I got to go on vacation with my Mom overnight and I was exhausted. I want to take my kids on hikes and to the beach, but I don't know if I have the energy to do it. Some days, I feel sick to my stomach. Some days I have a hard time eating because I have strange tastes in my mouth and no food sounds good. Some days, it's all I can do to stay awake. Many days, I take caffeine
All of those blossoms I bloomed last year and kept going through the early part of this year are wilting. I haven't posted anything to Born in Bellingham in months, after being on an awesome posting schedule for a while with birth stories and guest posts. I don't know when I'll teach my next Birth Boot Camp Series. I haven't written a movie review for the last 5 movies I've seen. I FINALLY got back on Weight Watchers and started eating right, and I can't do that either. I wanted to start taking pictures again and blogging, not doing those things either.
It's all just lying there in a heap on my floor, and I'm too tired to pick any of it up. I feel like I'm failing myself. I tell people I will email them, and I never get to it. I have had the same things on my to-do list for two months because I never have a chance to get them done. If I manage to find a bit of energy, I try to do laundry or dishes if I can.
Where Do We Go From Here?
I have talked to a nurse about the Ideal Protein program, but it's expensive. It also sounds like what I need. I'm struggling, I cried the other night and Justin said we'll figure out a way to make it work. It's risky to do because we don't have extra money. But WHAT CHOICE DO I HAVE? I can either do something drastic, or I can keep living this fucking life of nothingness that I'm living right now, suffering from this disease and the medication, miserable.
Of course, worst case scenario, I lose the weight and taper off the Diamox and my pressure shoots up, and I'm not in remission, and I still need a shunt. I don't even want to think about it. It's possible. Weight loss doesn't work for everyone. But I HAVE to try. Because I have to know that I TRIED. Because it does work for some people. And if it does, and I go into remission, I can get my life back. I can have time for the things I love again. I can have something left at the end of the day for my husband, which I don't have at all right now. I can ENJOY life again instead of trying to just get through it. I can look forward to evenings and weekends and activities and not just spend every spare moment worrying and wishing for a break.
This is where I am. Unfortunately, I think this summer is probably shot, it's not going to be great, but maybe 2014 will finally be the awesome year I've been waiting for?!? I am going to call my insurance company today to talk to them about whether there is any even remote possibility that they'll cover some kind of costs for any type of weight loss program. Who knows. Otherwise, I just have to figure it out, I guess.

Week 44: Another surprise
Current Weight: 211.4
+/- this week: -1.2
+/- this round: -38.4
+/- total: -55.6
Short Term Goal: 207 (60 lbs down)
Avg weekly loss needed to reach birthday goal of 200 lbs by age 32: 1.9 lbs/wk
I pretty much fell off the wagon the last 2 weeks, and at one point the scale showed a gain of a couple of pounds, and I thought it was accurate. I was surprised to see a loss on the scale this time. Once again, emotional things = me having a much more difficult time controlling my eating habits. Add to that just starting a new job, and having pretty much no time to exercise, and I was totally nervous to go and get weighed. I am also trying to figure out when the best time to go to weigh in is, since I’m working from 8:30 or 9 until 5, and have kiddo drop offs and pick-ups to contend with.
Today I didn’t have to drop Danny at day care since he stated at home with Grandma, so I was able to go in and weigh in on my way to work, so maybe that will work, but if I have him with me and have to get him in and out of the car it will definitely make it take longer. I could also potentially go after work on Tuesday or Thursday when Sam’s grandpa picks him up from the bus and I don’t have to get him from the after school program.
This is all a very big adjustment. I have more to write about that, and I’m hoping to get some time to sit down in the next couple of days and update here about a few things. The good thing about working full time is that when I’m at work, the temptation to just browse the kitchen and eat random crap isn’t there. I’m hoping that will contribute positively to my efforts. The bad part is that there are McDonalds (their breakfast is my weakness) and coffee shops on the way to work, but I can do it once in a while if I plan for it.
As you can see above, my goal of reaching 200 by my birthday in 6 weeks may have become unattainable. Losing effectively 2 lbs a week consistently is not something I’ve done before, and I don’t really know that it’ll happen now, especially with my decreased activity. All my free time over the next month is going to be spent reading and studying for my Birth Boot Camp training. But I definitely think that by the end of 2012, I will be under 200 – for good this time.

Well, that crap happened. Disappointing. I got a lot of activity points last week. BUT, I also spread my extra points out throughout the week and that seems to be less effective for me than having one day where I sort of splurge. Also, I know a few ounces of it was because of the switch to fall clothing instead of getting weighed in the lightest summery clothing I could find. It's a bit scary because the weekly loss I need went up and it's inched towards 2 lbs a week, which seems less do-able. Oh well, I'll still try.
Today another Mom on the playground mentioned that I looked like I'd lost weight and it was nice to have that acknowledgement. I have lost over 30 pounds since the beginning of last school year, and almost no one has said anything as far as the people I see at the bus stop every day. Anyhow, it always feels good when someone notices, you know?
This week I am going to be able to get some exercise, and I am going to try to stay under points and think about what I'm eating and not eat late at night. We'll see what happens.

I finally went in and weighed in today - it had been a month since my last official weigh in. The Bellingham Weight Watchers moved to a new location last week and it is really nice! It was fun to go in and they had their mini bars on sale for $2.50 off, so I got a couple of boxes. The toasted coconut are my favorite - they almost taste like Samoas! I also got a box of the toffee peanut ones. I like to take them to the movies with me in place of other candy.
I lost over a pound, which was great, and probably closer to at least 2 pounds since I had gained a tad since last weigh in. Only 2.1 pounds to my halfway point! Today is Sam's first day of first grade, so after I weighed in I took Danny downtown and we walked for an hour - he stayed in the stroller for at least 1/2 of it, which was great, then we walked together and looked at things. It was nice to feel like I am back on track - I only exercised intentionally for the sake of exercise 2 or 3 times over the summer, and that is much easier to do with Sam in school.

I finally made it in to town to a meeting after being back on the wagon for a week - counted points for everything I ate and even got a little activity. It's been a while, but I realized if I want to reach my birthday goal of being under 200 lbs on Nov 23, I needed to start getting serious again.
I was pleased at the scales today - two pounds gone and I'm less than 1/2 a pound away from being down a total of 50 pounds. Lately everything has been changing, and I am feeling proud of myself for the weight I've already lost. I often just think about how much is left to go, but the reality is that 50 lbs is nothing to sneer at, is it?
I was talking to some ladies in my book club about running and how I would like to try running, but I don't like how it feels. They recommended getting some compression gear so I could run with less... movement... I might look into that. I feel like I would like to do Couch to 5K, so maybe when I get a job I'll invest in some gear and some good shoes.
Well, I am going to sneak in a quick workout before I go over and pick up the boys from my Mom's house.

I didn't got to a meeting this week or go get weighed in. We are in the middle of a sort of cleanse with Sam that makes it easiest to stick close to home.
When I wrote up my goals for 2012, one of them was to be under 200 lbs by my birthday (Nov 23). I am halfway to that goal, and there are 19 weeks left. I need to lose 19 pounds by then. This should not be hard. Maybe I can even make it to 192, which would be a total loss of 75 lbs. Mostly though, before I turn 32, I want to see 199.9 on my scale.
One of my other goals was to exercise at least 3 times a week, which up until summer vacation, I've actually been doing pretty well on. Now that I'm counting and getting back to accountability, I'll have to start looking for my activity points again. I have been making an effort to still get the kids to bed fairly close to their usual time, but really I could do it after I put Danny to bed even if Sam's still up. Maybe. We'll see.
So that's that. I'll do an official weigh in next week.

Current Weight: 219.6

You may have noticed that I haven't posted a weekly update in three weeks. That's because - guess what? I skipped not one but TWO weigh ins. Not only that, but I haven't tracked in three weeks. Yet, look at my weigh in... I lost 0.8 lbs which is negligible. But it's NOT A GAIN. For the last three weeks I have been eating in a way that feels completely off the rails for me, and not getting any regular exercise. For me, the fact that I haven't gained weight in the last few weeks is a HUGE change from the past. Even when I am not working towards weight loss and feel like I am eating out of control, I am obviously not eating to the degree I used to. I know that eating because of stress or depression is not healthy, but I also see now that I am more in control of tings than I may have thought. This also gives me hope because it makes me feel like if I can get back on track with counting points & exercise that I WILL lose weight.
My Mom's husband came over the other day and brought my elliptical machine in to the house for me. This is good because my main form of exercise thus far has been walking, and that is majorly thrown off by Sam being on summer vacation. He can't walk the distance I want or for the amount of time I need in order to get real exercise. So, now my plan is to use the elliptical machine 4 or more times a week after the kids go to bed. Being able to watch TV while I exercise is a good motivator for me, which is kind of funny, but also true.
So that's that. I am chugging along around here.

The scale showed a 0.4 pound gain this week... oh, well. Anytime I see a loss of less than 1/2 a pound I think 'at least it's not a gain.' Anytime I see a gain of less than 1/2 a pound I think oh, well. I guess I wore heavier pants today or didn't pee before I got weighed. In other words, it's not really consequential. So, it's just an "Oh, well" kind of week.
I didn't go over my points, in fact, I didn't even use all of my weekly points. I also didn't' get as much exercise as I have been getting. This week I hope to get more activity in. We are going to bring the elliptical machine into the house and that will help a lot because I'll be able to do it after the kids are in bed and it's higher intensity than just walking.
Not much else to report this week, just chuggin' along!

I had another good week on the scales this week! I am 0.2 lbs from -30! Exciting. And only 3 lbs away from -50 pounds overall.
I went over my weekly points again... I am just not being disciplined enough. Maybe this week I'll be back on track. I've been eating more fruit again and menu planning helps a TON.
I only got 28 activity points this week, which is almost double my "goal" that the Weight Watchers website gave me. But I like to walk a lot. Like at least an hour at least four times a week. Unfortunately I hurt my foot last Friday. I went for a walk in what turned out to be an ill advised pair of shoes. That night, my foot hurt and when I posted about it on Facebook several of my friends suggested that it sounds like Plantar Faciitis. Which... well, it's annoying. I can do stretches and try to stay off it, but four days later it still hurts and I haven't been able to go for a walk in four days. I can't afford to buy expensive shoes, but luckily I do have a pair of Keens and one of my friends said hers are really good for this. In any case, we'll just have to see how things go. I talked to Justin the other day about bringing the eliptical machine in from the garage. Yeah, it'll be an eyesore but we pretty much never have people over anyhow, and I could do it while we watch TV after the kids are in bed which would be really nice. So maybe I can get him to help me with that in the next couple of days.
Last week I mentioned my goal of being under 200 by my birthday on November 23. Well, I looked at the calendar and I have 25 weeks until my birthday, so I would have to average less than a pound a week in order to meet that goal. When I put it that way, it sounds pretty do-able, doesn't it?! The idea of being under 200 pounds is really exciting to me. For a long time I had the idea in my head that if I ever got to 200 lbs, THEN I would FOR SURE do something about it. Then it turned into 210, 225, 250 etc. Well, I am finally ACTUALLY doing something about it, and this will really mean a lot to me if I can make it happen.
Next week I think I'll update my measurements and see what's happening there.

Remember last week when I was all boo hoo because of the massive number on the scale? Well, apparently some of that was water weight or something. Being a female at certain times of the month can be a pitfall of the number on the scale. In any case, I was SHOCKED at weigh in today. -4.2 lbs in one week? I lost the 3.6 from last week, plus 0.6 more! Awesome sauce!
I did start getting some activity again, and earned 39 activity points last week. I also went over my weekly points by 33, but I guess it cancelled out? In any case, I am really happy to feel like I am back on track! I've already earned 11 activity points - walked for 1.5 hours today and 30 minutes of it was on the uphill/downhill streets around my house.
Speaking of activity, the one complaint I have about the weight watchers app for my phone is that it doesn't really give you the option for intensity level like it does when you look in the pocket guide. For some people, you reach medium intensity walking less than 3 miles per hour depending on how much you weigh and how out of shape you are. So, it bothers me a little because I feel like sometimes I get less activity points than I would if I just looked it up in my pocked guide where I can account for my level of intensity/effort. A lot of times I just use the one it says in the app, even if it isn't as much as I would have wanted, because then I'm underestimating instead of overestimating and that won't hurt anything.
Today I was thinking about how one of my goals for 2012 was to be under 200 lbs before my 32nd birthday (November 23). When I look at my numbers now, I have lost 27 pounds in the last 6 months. I have 6 months before my birthday, and only 22.4 more pounds to reach that goal. Sitting here today, it seems completely attainable, and that is exciting to me. I'll still be 40 lbs above my goal weight, but I have not been under 200 pounds in... I don't even know. 7 years? Definitely before I got pregnant with Sam. I have also been doing pretty well on my goal of exercising 3 times a week. I walk A LOT with Danny in his stroller. I would like to start doing Zumba or something again, but it's hard to find time to do it with the kids underfoot etc.

Today I hit my 10% goal. 10% of my weight, gone. 16% if you start from my heaviest weight of 267. I got my charm ring and my 16 week charm.
That's me in February 2009 at my heaviest weight. I took 'before' photos because I knew I would want them. On the right is me this past weekend. Even though I still feel really fat a lot of the time... it's kind of crazy how heavy I was. I can't believe I've lost almost 50 pounds. How could I have been carrying around so much extra weight? I feel slow and cumbersome NOW, how could I have been doing anything then?
My next goal is 217 pounds - that marks a total loss of 50 pounds. I've only got 7.3 pounds to go to get there. I think it will feel like a big deal. I already decided my next goal after that - 213.5 pounds. That will mark the halfway point to my goal weight. It will also mark the least I will have weighed in over 6 years. I've mapped what I think are good short term goals down below. When I look at them like this, it seems so much more surmountable.
It's late and I'm tired and feeling really mellow and introspective, so I'm going to head to bed. I'm hoping to be writing more regularly soon - I have about 10 blog posts floating around in my head half written right now. My schedule is getting back to normal, so soon I hope to get them all down.

Today I hit my 10% goal. 10% of my weight, gone. 16% if you start from my heaviest weight of 267. I got my charm ring and my 16 week charm.
I hung it from the mirror in my car as a reminder - this IS possible. I am doing this. I can keep doing this. It's not always easy, but I've only had one gain in the past 18 weeks, and that's pretty good. Last time around I didn't hit my 10% goal until 25 weeks in. That's almost 2 months longer than this time around. I got a ton of activity points this week, and that's my current focus - getting activity nearly every day. I got 40+ activity points last week. I walked today before my meeting, and tomorrow I'm meeting my Mom and 3 friends for a walk. Hopefully Danny will cooperate and ride nicely in his stroller. I'm going to start using my Zumba Wii game more and maybe doing some of my workout videos. I'm starting to actually want to do it. It's an interesting juxtaposition because I really HATE exercising. While I'm doing it, I'm waiting for it to be done. But at the same time, I want to do it because it's getting me where I want to go. Next week, I will probably get my next charm - the 25 lb ring. I lost another point today, so I'm at 35 points plus allowance for each day. We took a really nice family photo over Easter weekend, and I decided it was time for a comparison. So:

Oops! I totally forgot to post this yesterday. I don't have much time, I'm about to head down to Seattle for a (hopefully not too wet) visit to the zoo with my best friend & her kiddos. Sam and Danny haven't been there in a while, and my sister's going to come too, so that will be fun. I really don't like being out in the rain, but I'll suck it up since the kids don't mind as much. I packed extra everything - clothes, shoes, coats etc.
This week I was pleasantly surprised again by a 1.2 pound loss. I wasn't really expecting it because I didn't eat super great, but I did get a lot of activity points this week, so that helps a lot! I am feeling really good lately about my progress - less than a pound to reach my 10% goal, and next week I'll hit my 16 week milestone with Weight Watchers (I've skipped 2 meetings since I started, so my count here is different). I feel like maybe this really will be my year... could it be possible?
I was thinking about it the other day, and realized I have lost a whole Danny since December. And a whole Sam total. That's crazy! When I pick Sam up and carry him, it's hard to believe that I used to have that much more weight on me. Even with Danny if I hold him for more than a few minutes, he starts to feel heavy. Revelations like this are really motivational to me, and make me feel more proud of what I've done even though some days it doesn't feel like a lot since I have so far to go still.
I finally made a new meal plan on Monday, so we're back on track for delicious, healthy meals. Last night we had one of my favorites, spaghetti w/chicken and grape tomatoes. I added some tasty sweet peppers that Justin's co-worker gave him and it would have been perfect if not for a pasta snafu. I was out of my regular brand (Ancient Harvest Quinoa pasta - delicious!) and used some other gluten free pasta I had by DeBoles... it did not turn out well, after it sat for a few minutes while I cooked the tomatoes etc. it turned into a huge, mushy mess. Justin compared the texture to oatmeal. Appetizing, right?
I went to the mall and did over an hour of walking yesterday, and should get some good walking in at the zoo today and Northwest Trek this weekend. Challenges will be today at the zoo, then Saturday and Sunday away from home visiting family & friends (plus Easter candy). I'll have to try to get a lot of activity points this week!

Sorry for my weeklong absence here. This week and next may be a little light to be honest. Sam was sick all last week, then when I headed down to Seattle on Friday and didn't have to be taking care of kids anymore, my body just gave in and got really sick too. Soooo... my fun weekend down there was still semi-enjoyable, but I also felt like ass most of the time, and am still slightly sick. Now I'm starting to feel a bit better, but Danny spiked a fever last night and pretty much slept all day today and went to bed with a ridiculously runny nose tonight. WOO! By the time we all recover, it'll be the weekend and since next week is Sam's spring break and my Mom will be out of town, I'm not sure I'll get much computer time. If nothing else, I'll get my weekly updates in!
So, I hit 20 pounds this week! Which feels good... but looking at my overall number, which hit 40 this week, feels really good. That means I'm within 10 pounds of my lowest weight loss. Right after I had Danny I was -50 pounds, and when I hit that it's going to feel amazing. Being sick did have a silver lining, I suppose... I don't think I would have lost as much if I hadn't been, though I still would have hit the 20 pounds mark. I've only got 2 pounds to go before my 10% goal also, which is exciting. My current BMI is 35.5, which is 6 lower than where I started.
Hm... that has me thinking about milestones that will be really exciting for me. Hitting -50 will be one. Then hitting 213.5 pounds, which is my 1/2way point to my goal. Then, getting under 200. When I hit 200, I'll have lost 25% of my total body weight. Then getting under 180 because I hovered there for years and years. I feel amazed even thinking that these things could really happen. For non-weight goals, the biggest will be the first time I'm able to buy outside the plus size section - Old Navy anyone?
This week, once I'm really feeling better, I'll try to get some exercise. Between the mall and grocery shopping today, I got 2 hours of walking in. I almost died from exhaustion afterwards, making me realize I'm not better at all yet. No big challenges this week, date night tomorrow, but that's about it!

Not a very big week. I was happy to see a loss at all though because I had a crazy day of excess on Sunday. It was my best friend's birthday and let's just say there was a lot of food/cake ingested. And it was washed down with a lot of Lemon Drops. It was a special day, so I just let it happen, because if I don't allow that kind of thing once in a while, none of this will work.
So, I was hoping to at least stay the same, and it's nice to lose a tiny bit. If I do well this week, I may be able to hit -20 pounds next week! We'll see.
I am thinking a lot about exercise. Justin got me the Zumba game for the Wii, and it's pretty fun. Now that Danny's sleeping later (knock on wood) again, I'm thinking about trying to get up at 6 and do that in the mornings. Perhaps I'll try that in the next few days. It's also a possibility that we may be able to get a gym membership through some extra computer work Justin's been doing. That would be nice.
This week, challenges will be few. Friday is usually date night, but Justin's going to be out of town, so I am not sure what the plan is yet. Maybe I will just go out and have some me time. Other than that it should be a pretty quiet week.

Another good week! I used all my daily points but did not go over my weekly points this week. I also got 19 activity points, which is great! I think they recommend trying to get 14/week but I'd like to shoot for closer to 20. I don't trade my activity points for food points, maybe if I ever get to the point where I'm in maintenance, but for now I would feel like I was wasting it.
I looked at my chart and I am ahead of where I was last time around. I am so close to being 20 pounds down, and that will be a milestone that really feels like something to me. I lost a point this week so I now have 36 daily points instead of 37.
This week I got Zumba 2 for the Wii! I haven't tried it out yet, but I am really looking forward to it! I did buy some Girl Scout cookies today, because I can't really deny myself those. I just have to make sure I moderate - really one at a time is the best way.
Challenges this week will be date night on Friday and Book Club/Birthday Party on Sunday. I'll save up my weekly points and Sunday I'll just eat a light breakfast. I'm going to try to get activity at least 3 days, but ideally 4.

There was no update last week. I didn't go to a meeting last Tuesday, or get weighed. The last two weeks have been a little stressful, and last Tuesday was positively gloomy. It was pouring buckets all day and I just felt really, really yucky. Combine that with the fact that I had a really bad week eating wise (like 60 points in the red bad - but at least I tracked, right?) and I just didn't feel like going to a meeting. So, I didn't.
I didn't expect much this week because honestly, I went over my points again last week. But it seems like I'm sitting a little lower, and I haven't gained. I lost 2.4 pounds in the last 2 weeks, which is not too bad! After my last weigh in at 10 weeks, I was feeling down about my progress so far. It just seems so slow. So I went back and checked out my weekly updates from last time I stuck with Weight Watchers in 2009 and lost 3 pounds. And you know what? I didn't hit -15 pounds until week 13. When I realized that, I felt better and more motivated because I know that I DID it last time and I can do it again.
This week my two challenges will be date night on Friday and a birthday party on Saturday. I will use weekly points to have a piece of cake, but I'll try to eat light that day and not graze - only eat from a plate - at the party itself.
I went for a walk yesterday with Danny. If I get to Sam's bus stop 35 minutes early there's a good loop to walk that gets my heart rate up right away because it starts with a hill. I may try to do it again today, but it's kind of gloomy so it's possible it will start to rain. My plans of trying to get up before anyone else and do exercise have not worked out. Danny is getting up at 5:45 or 6 every day. If he was sleeping until 7, I might be able to stomach getting up at 6:20, but I can't get up at 5:15 to work out.
A friend invited me to go to Zumba with her, which is something I'd love to do because I used to go and loved it. I might see if I can work it out with Justin to do that at least once a week, because I really enjoyed it and the activity points really add up with it!

I'll be honest, I was not completely happy with today's weigh in. I know, I know, it's a good loss. I guess I just expected at least 2 pounds. I did well with following my points this week and I got over 20 activity points. But somehow, it didn't translate to the scale. Oh well. Things were going so well for the first seven weeks I'm struggling a little now with it not continuing to go as smoothly.
I think I really need to get into some kind of class or something for exercise. Walking is great, but it's not enough and I don't really like it. At least if I'm in a Zumba class or something it's distracting. Part of the thing is that I can go for walks when I have Danny with me, and lately he'll often fall asleep and nap in the stroller while I walk. I think I really want to get the Zumba game for the Wii. It's kind of a crap shoot with the kids though. It might be something I need to do when Justin's home, which is a little bit limiting. OR I could go back to that idea of getting up early before everyone else in my house. I'm just not sure.
This week's challenges are date night tonight, Bunco on Thursday, visiting the zoo on Friday, and possibly staying the night in Seattle next Monday. Four in one week... not great, especially when I am not feeling as motivated as I could be. At least the zoo will be plenty of walking and activity.

Week 9: Back on Track, Despite Frankenfoot
Current Weight: 236.6
+/- this week: -0.8
+/- this round: -13.2
+/- total: -30.3
Short Term Goal 2: 225.8 (10%)
This week at weigh in I was back on track, mostly. I didn't lose much, but it was still a loss. I'm happy with it considering that I had a bit of a stressful week that included unplanned fast food on more than one occasion.
The challenge this week was STRESS. Last Thursday, Justin had a little accident with his motorcycle when his foot slipped off the pin as he was parking it, and the pin then decided to attack his foot. When he took off his shoe after getting home, it looked like this:
That is a photo he took at the ER AFTER he had taken Ibuprofin. When he pulled his sock off at home, it was swollen in such a weird way (see those bumps going out to the sides?) that for at least 10 minutes I was SURE that it was broken. I may have said "Oh my God" about 20 times.
I called my Mom to come watch the kids so I could take him to the ER. We decided that chances were it was not broken, but we wanted to get X-Rays just in case and also something for the pain. Here's me waiting for the 2nd round of X-Rays to come back. Don't I look happy?
I am calling it Frankenfoot because it's purple. that bruise goes all the way around his whole foot, plus there's more bruising up on his ankle and on the top and bottom of his foot. One of the worst parts is that he had just finally gotten his motorcycle fixed and had freedom again not to depend on his boss or the bus for rides to work, and this happened on the 2nd day he rode it to work. Bummer.
In any case, this made for a bit of a stressful week. Time spent at doctors plus grouchiness caused by the pain plus taking care of the kids even more than usual because Justin can't do as much = me looking for comfort in the pantry.
Luckily I did okay. I didn't go too overboard, although I did go over my 49 weekly points by 7. I went for a walk around our neighborhood on Monday afternoon with Danny in the stroller. He fell asleep in there, so I got exercise and he got a nap. Good deal. I timed how long it takes to walk around this certain loop. It took 35 minutes, so now I know that I can do that just before Sam gets home on the school bus. There are a couple of places that I can add extra small loops if I need to add minutes, for instance on Monday I walked for an hour by adding a couple of little detours. As the weather gets nicer, I think this is something I'll do more often. I just used Google Maps to map it out, and it's a 1.46 mile loop. If I do it several times a week, I think it'll be a good routine to establish. It's challenging because it's really hilly where we live, and the way I do this walk has me going up the biggest hill right at the beginning, so it gets my heart rate up and then I can keep it up.
This week's challenges will be date night on Friday night and my book club on Sunday. I'm going to save my weekly points for those two occasions and also eat a light breakfast on Sunday. I'll also just keep portion sizes in my mind, and make sure I only eat what's on my plate instead of grazing from the food that's out.
Here's to a bigger loss this week!

Right before this photo was taken I totally ate Taco Bell. Not great for points. The docs said it was not broken, just a really bad sprain. They gave him a prescription for like 5 Vicodin. The next few days were stressful, Justin has been in pain and not able to get around really well, and every time something bumps his foot it hurts pretty bad. He got some crutches on Saturday. On Monday it was still hurting pretty bad so he went to the clinic after work. They recommended keeping it elevated as much as possible and gave him a few more Vicodin. Here's what it looked like last night:

Well. That happened.
This week was a huge challenge for me. I knew that I wasn't going to see a loss on the scale today, I just didn't think it would be this big a gain.
I had a bad week mentally, including one really bad day. When I'm feeling stressed or down, when I'm feeling scowly and dark, it makes it hard for me to eat right. I made bad choices. I used my weekly points in the exact way I DON'T like to use them - spread out over several days. It never works as well as using them for one or two special occasions. I didn't meet my goal for exercise either, I got one good walk in with Justin on Friday, and walked for about an hour with Danny in his stroller one day, but other than that? Not a lot of activity.
So... this week is another week, and hopefully it will be better. I'm disappointed in myself, but I also recognize that slip ups are going to happen once in a while. I'm trying to take the attitude that this is just a bump in the road and I'm past it now. It's not always easy to look at things this way, but there's not much point in getting down on myself.
I'm already doing better this week. My eating hasn't been super great today, but I went to the mall and walked around for about 45 minutes, then went for a 40 minute walk outside. So, that's good. A few weeks ago, I had thought about trying to get up before everyone else to do one of my workout videos. I never did it. Because I like sleeping. Maybe this week I'll actually try that. We'll see.
As for challenges this week, nothing out of the ordinary happening. We have date night tonight, so I will use some of my weekly points today. For the rest of the week, I'll probably try not to use them at all since that's what works best for me.

I met my first goal of 5%! Yay! I also lost 4.2 pounds this week. Maybe less/more, for the past 2 weeks I lost 5.2 pounds and since I didn't have an official weigh in last week, I'm not sure how much happened each week. I'm excited to be meeting goals. It's so encouraging! I got my 5% star sticker at my meeting today. My next short term goal is my 10% - 225.8 or about 25 pounds.
I ate very poorly last week as a result of being trapped in the house all week, but I was also sick, so I didn't eat as much. I also got almost NO activity aside from a walk yesterday with my Mom, my Sister and her Fiance, but it was a good walk - 2 hours on the trail.
There are no big challenges this week, and I'm going to try and go for walks with Danny twice, and do a higher intensity workout twice.
Tonight is date night, so I may not get much done, but either when we get home or tomorrow, I'll be making a new meal plan and putting together a grocery list for what we'll be eating this week. I have all my cookbooks ready and I'm actually looking forward to cooking some new things.
