I haven't done the Thursday Thirteen for a while, but I got an idea for a list yesterday and thought, hey, what a perfect fit! This time of year I spend most of my time thinking about my kids and my friends kids. So I decided today to think about my wish list - some things that may be in my reach, and others that are just dreams. Here's what will make me smile (are you listening, Santa?).
My Grown Up Christmas List - 13 Things I Want to Find Under My Tree
I used to participate in Thursday Thirteen more regularly, and since I love lists so much maybe I'll jump back in. This is a list I've been thinking about for a while - my list of my top songs from Glee. I've included videos for each, though a few are just audio with a static picture because it's all that was available. I still love Glee every week, and it makes me laugh and cry. The first five are my absolute favorites (in no particular order), and the remaining 8 videos are not in any certain order.
1. Thriller/Heads Will Roll - I wish there was a video of the actual performance for this one. This has got to be one of the best mashups I've ever heard, and it's definitely in my top 5.
2. It's My Life/Confessions Part 2 - This was one that just wowed me when it happened. I loved the crazy manic energy of this episode (courtesy of some type of cold/sinus medication Terri was giving the students).
3. Defying Gravity - Seriously, this is where I fell absolutely in LOVE with Kurt. He's my favorite character on the show. Once, when I was pregnant with Danny, this song came on while I was driving and I burst into tears because it was so beautiful.
4. Bad Romance - Kurt again! And Santana really showed her stuff in this one. This is my favorite to sing along to while it blares in the car.
5. Dream On - When I heard that Neal Patrick Harris was going to be on, I was so excited! This duet is just so good. Also, this is a song I would DEFINITELY not know all the words to if it weren't for Glee.
6. The Boy Is Mine - Santana and Mercedes battle it out.
7. Give Up the Funk - One of the things that was cool about this one is that it was one of the first times that you were able to get the true range of Chris Colfer's voice - there is no autotune or adjustment, that's really him singing those notes.
8. Bills, Bills, Bills - It's just different. And Kurt and Blaine? LOVE.
9. Vogue - How could you not love this? Sue cracks me up nearly every week.
10. Lady is a Tramp - Puck shows his stuff. Awesome.
11. Don't Rain on My Parade - Another one where I was just absolutely WOWED when I saw it.
12. Alone - Kristin Chenowith is pretty awesome, and I had no idea she could sing like this. I knew she sang, but when she belted the chorus out? It was awesome.
13. Slave 4 U - I really like Britney. She's funny, but innocent and caring all at the same time. And do you ever just focus on her dancing? Really good.
Also, I totally love Burt Hummel. This totally made me cry, and he rocks.
Also, Matthew Morrison and Jessalyn Gilsig totally acted the shit out of this scene where he discovers her fake preggo belly, and it is STILL stuck in my mind.
Do you watch Glee? What are your favorites?

It all started on Sunday morning when I woke up with a vaguely sore throat. While I was out that day, I felt out of it - my head wasn't right and I sort of felt like the world was just happening around me. By the time I got home from my book club in Seattle around 9 that night, full on chills had set in. It's been a miserable week.
13 Things Strep Throat Taught Me This Week
1. It is possible to go from being freezing and shivering under 2 blankets with slippers and a fleece shirt to sweating as if you'd just run a marathon in under 20 minutes. Without moving.
2. Every day you can wake up and think you feel better, to be reminded only 10 minutes after being upright that you still feel crappy.
3. It is hard for 2 kids to deal with a Mom who is sick and a Dad who might possibly be coming down with something.
4. My husband is awesome.
5. Even when the 101-102 fever you've had for several days goes away, you can still continue to have hot flashes.
6. If you are deciding whether to call the doctor because you might be dying and your throat has white spots, you can Google pictures of strep throat and find this guy. You will laugh even though you feel like crap.
7. If it didn't hurt so much and make you want to collapse into the fetal position, strep throat would be a great weight loss plan.
8. Sometimes, you don't care how many hours of video games get played as long as it's occupying someone and you don't have to move.
9. It is possible to throw up even if you have not eaten in 2 days.
10. If you've already taken your temperature, maybe you should not decide to experiment by taking your temperature in your armpit because when it reads 102.5 you will feel even more miserable.
11. It is possible for the screeching of a baby and a preschooler to be even more painful than normal when your entire head is full of sick.
12. Not being able to physically walk to the bottom of your (1/4 mile long, hilly) driveway with the baby to get your 4 year old to his bus will make you feel lame.
13. It is possible to become exhausted just from writing a list post. I need a nap.
Hope your week was about 2 million times healthier than mine.

The prompt for Day 13 of 30 Days of Truth is "A letter to a band or artist that has gotten you through some tough ass days."
No. Just no. I'm not doing this. I really like Sarah McLachlan, and she makes me feel things, her music really means something to me. But I don't really credit her with getting me through anything. Because I am 30 and not 15, I don't think I can really answer this.
The prompt for Day 14 of 30 Days of Truth is "A letter to a hero that has let you down."
I honestly would not know what to write here. I am sure at some point I have had a hero that's let me down. Maybe. But I really don't know who, or what they did. Sorry Charlies. I'm just not that jaded.
The prompt for Day 15 of 30 Days of Truth is "Something or someone you couldn’t live without, because you’ve tried living without it."
Huh. The only thing I've tried living without that I can't give up is certain types of food. Which, like I've said before, is why Weight Watchers is so great. Because I don't have to give anything up, I just have to limit myself. I can't think of anything else I've actually HAD to live without, so instead here are 13 things I wouldn't want to live without. Because, really, the only things I COULDN'T live without are like air, water and food, right?
My family - my husband, my kids, my sisters, my Mom etc.

When one of my kids starts screeching, then the other one joins in because the first one is too loud
Last week I was flipping through the shows in my Netflix Streaming and came across a documentary about badgers. I like some nature programming, so Is tarted watching it. Did you know that badgers are the least known mammals in North America? Also, they are SUPER cute.
So I started thinking about how if it wasn't totally inadvisable/dangerous/wrong, I would totally have a badger as a pet and cuddle with it. Which of course got me thinking about other animals I would want to cuddle with. So, this week's Thursday Thirteen is the 13 animals I'd most want to own. You know, if it wasn't so wrong.
Golden Lion Tamarind or Pygmy Marmoset
Capybara
Red Panda
Wombat
Koala
Cinnamon Tiger
Badger
Platypus
Snow Leopard
Tasmanian Devil
Skunk
Tapir
Tree Kangaroo
What inadvisable pet would you like to snuggle?

It's that time of year again when best of and highlights posts start popping up all over our feedreaders. What kind of blogger would I be if I didn't have one too? But really, one of the fun things about blogging is being able to look back at the year(s) and read how I was thinking and feeling. So, here are my top posts of each month in 2010, then an extra that I loved to round it out to thirteen.
Top 13 Posts of 2010
1.January: The Second Time Around - At 22 weeks pregnant, I explore the differences between my pregnancy with Sam and the second, with Danny.
2.February: A Thousand Splendid Suns - One of the few book reviews I wrote this year, writing it and reading it now reminded me how much I like writing like that, and that I need to do it more often in the coming year.
6.June: The Weight - About my weight - where it's been, where it is, and how I felt after baby.
7.July: 10 Things That Are Just NOT Okay - A lot of times things are funny in my head, but I'm not sure if they will be to others. I managed to write something funny, and it's probably my most read post ever. 10 things that make my skin crawl - like pants with words across the ass. NOT okay.
8.August: The Hunger - Exploring how it feels to have a bad relationship with food, and the struggle I face every day trying to control my diet.
9.September: Pulling on the Past - After an intensely emotional dream about people I used to know, I write about how sometimes I feel haunted by my past and how hard it is sometimes to let go. Bonus: Unexpected Memories, a post about the memories that stick with me throughout my volunteer work with domestic violence and sexual assault victims.
12.December: Baby Holding Days and Sleepless Nights - Capturing the essence of motherhood right now - a baby who doesn't want to be put down, and a whole lot of tired.
13.Bonus!: Boundless Blessings - Ending the year thinking about and revisiting the amazing blessings I've experienced just seems right. When Justin got his new job, I reflected on how lucky we really are.

So the other night I was sitting on the couch and Sam was playing on PBS kids and he was playing Thomas the Tank Engine Games and there was a guessing game and the answer was Edward. Then I suddenly started thinking about Team Edward, as in Twilight. Team Jacob, Team Edward. I've always been Team Edward myself. But which team should you choose if you're not into Twilight? Well, here are a few ideas.
Do you like books, but are sick of Twilight? How about the Bible?
Or Grimm's Fairy Tales?
Maybe you don't like books at all, but you like TV.
Or movies.
Are you into the supernatural, but don't like fiction?
Maybe you say screw all that, you're a serious guy and you'd rather stick with politics and history.
Or maybe you say screw all THAT, and you're only passionate about fashion.
Or, maybe like me, you have kids and can't get them out of your head. You might as well just give in.
Is this only funny to me? Possibly. Which team are YOU on?

It's Thursday and I've got a list for you! Sam has been on a reading streak lately. He's long been interested in books and having stories read to him, but the last few days he's been bringing me a lot of books and wanting me to read to him. So, I thought today I'd post a Thursday Thirteen I've been thinking about for a while. Some I had as a child, others I discovered working in the Children's Section at Borders Books, and a few I discovered with Sam. One (Santa Mouse) my mother can still recite from memory. As I put it together, I feel like I've probably left something I love off the list - so instead of calling it definitively my 13 Favorite Kids Books, I'll call it...
13 of My Favorite Kids Books
What are your favorite picture books?
